YOUR TOP TRAVEL QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Finally, after waiting for months, your holiday is just around the corner, exciting times ahead.

And then you begin to wonder; shall I take my suitcase with wheels or my bag, should I book an airport transfer or just wing it, should I exchange money before I leave, will I needs vegan snacks?

Let's haves a look at the top five questions I get asked prior to people arriving for their vegan adventure holidays.

Wheels or no wheels?

This is one of the top questions I get asked and I always say the same thing; absolutely definitely wheels!

When you're on the move there will be airports, bus station and train stations to navigate so do yourself and you back a favour by not lugging heavy bags around.

Struggling with heavy bags in unfamiliar destinations is a recipe for stress, just make sure you bring a day pack with you for excursions, day trips and volcano hikes and you'll be a happy traveller.

Wheeled bags with a soft shell are best as they are squishier (technical term) which means you'll be able to fit them into smaller spaces if need be, I'm brand loyal, when I find something that works for me, I stick to it. My main luggage is a soft shelled wheeled case by Osprey, here's their response when I enquired if their products were competed vegan friendly:

Will I need local currency?

I'll let you in on a secret; my travel survival kit consists of a head torch, a pocket knife, a bungee cord (you would be amazed what you can do with a bungee cord) and US$.

Always have local currency on you and if possible in small denominations as in certain parts of the world, like Guatemala and much of Latin America, many shops, bars and restaurants will not accept large notes or currency that is ripped torn or defaced in any way at all.

By having local currency you'll get charged accordingly, by having foreign currency, you'll get charged foreign prices and loose out big time on exchange rates.

What shall I pack?

This may sound like such a simple question but having the right clothes will make your life so much easier, I’ve witnessed plenty of people over the years having to run out last minute to buy things that should have been on their packing list.

Have a good look at your trip itinerary and if there’s one recommendation, it’s this; take your favourite jeans / top / jumper / shoes, what ever that one item is for you, don’t think just because you’re going away you won’t want it, you will and it will make you feel all comfortable and snuggly.

Will I need to pack vegan snacks?

If you’re doing a trip with me then no as everything is provided!

If you’re traveling solo then I would say yes, take a few but you don’t a suitcase full of snacks, do your research before you leave home and find out what kind of local food is available so you know what to expect when you arrive.

Having traveled through some extreme environments, in the most remote villages and towns, I’ve always found the following:

A church / place of worship
A football pitch
A fresh food + produce market

Just remember to graze and focus on whole foods and you’ll be fine.
