5 WAYS TO GET INSPIRED ABOUT ADVENTURE TRAVEL

Itching to hike a mountain?

Ready to feel the elements against your skin?

Fancy exploring one of the oldest cities in the world?

Whether you are an armchair adventurer or or a seasoned explorer, from the epic to the emotional, these offerings will encourage you to dream, plan and set off on your own adventures.

1. Meet Dave

Dave Cornthwaite is an adventurer, author and motivational speaker.

Since quitting his life as a couch potato in 2005 Dave got busy, so far completing ten non-motorised journeys each over 1000 miles including skateboarding across Australia, paddle boarding the Mississippi and swimming the Lower Missouri.

I stumbled across Dave a few years ago in a coffee shop in Spain, befriended him and later invited him to his first ever vegan tea party, here in lies the beauty of travel and those interesting fleeting connections you make.

If you're in need of some travel inspiration then meet Dave.

2. Watch Wild

Reese Witherspoon plays Cheryl Strayed who, in 1995 decides to hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail alone as a way to heal herself following her divorce, the death of her mother, and years of reckless, destructive behaviour.
It's nearly in the chick flick category, none the less, I dare you not to google Pacific Trail hike afterwards and buy new hiking boots! Have a look at the trailer here.

3. Follow 72 year old Vladimir from Belarus on his motorbike

Whilst exploring one of the oldest cites in the world, Malaga, I found myself drawn to an old motorbike parked up in a side street, having done a few long motorbike trips myself I was keen to meet the owner.

I didn't have to wait for long.

Vladimir A. Yarets, 72, a native of Minsk (Belarus), the first deaf person to have found determination and courage and set into a round the world trip on a motorbike. Currently he has traveled through more than 69 countries and covered the total distance exceeding 302.279 km.
He started his numerous journeys in 1967 and took the time to show me the most amazing photo albums.

The first space he conquered was the whole territory of the USSR – from Belarus to Magadan. Soviet militia was strongly against issuing the driving license to the deaf biker, which, nevertheless, did not stop him from continuing the trip. Having returned home with a pack of newspaper cuts witnessing his unique ‘marathon’ Yarets showed them to local authorities and finally received the driving license.

If you're reading this and know that you've spent the last few years making excuses or putting things off until a 'better time' then read Vladamir's full story and feel your energy shift to a different place.

4. Walk down memory lane

On a trip back to the UK last year I spent a few hilarious hours with my brother going over old holiday photos from our childhood, yes, I'm old enough to have real printed photos and they make all the difference, they seem to evoke a different kind of emotion than looking at digitals on a screen.

After a few hours of flicking thorough old photos I was raring to explore the Algarve in Portugal where we spent a week when I was ten, I felt inspired to get back to Grand Canaria where we had family holidays throughout my teenage years and actually booked a ticket to Paris, somewhere that I had wanted to visit for years but never quite got around to it.

Get the albums out, see where they take you.

5. Change the world

Travel has the unique potential to transcend language and culture, it educates and informs, it challenges the status quo and raises awareness of societal issues.

Vegan travel helps to promote the availability of a lifestyle in which animals, people and the environment are not exploited.

It creates the demand, supports existing vegan businesses and enables conscious economies to grow.

This alone is my inspiration and motivation, both personally and professionally.
